Bansha Celtic

Bansha are well used to punching well above our weight as far as soccer is concerned, with our Junior Team playing in the Premier League and 2 Junior Internationals coming from this small Village. Bansha Celtic first set up Schoolboys with one team back in 1995, this lasted a couple of years, then fell away. It was with this team that now Junior international Christopher Higgins first played soccer.

Then in 2006 Bansha again entered Schoolboy soccer when we put a team into the U10 Blitz. It was this team that the following season won the U11 Tipperary cup, under the guidance of coaches Gerald Egan and David Fanning. This was the last season that U11s played on a full size pitch.

From these small beginnings the club has grown from season to season. We now have over 50 players registered with the club and have built a reputation with parents and the community for being a club that treats every child the same and having coaches that want every child to have the chance to improve and play. We pride ourselves on having friendly and approachable coaches.

The U16 team of 2012 got to the last 32 of the U16 national cup last season, this was that same bunch of lads that played in the U10 Blitz back in 2006. Our U12B team last season won the league and cup double for the second season in a row; they will now compete in the U13A league.

We have guided some of the 2005 U10 players out of Schoolboy leagues and they are now playing Youth football for the Club. The conveyer belt is still running as we have U10, U12 U13 and U16 teams for the 2012/13 season. The circle is complete with Christopher Higgins now coaching our U16 team with Bansha’s other, now ex-Junior international player Michael Grace. Every team likes to win, but what must be the most important thing is that the children enjoy playing and training for Bansha Celtic Schoolboys.

It cannot be overstated just how much hard work is needed to run a schoolboy club in a small community like Bansha and if it was not for the help of our players’ parents and their willingness in these tough times to continue to put their hands in their pockets we would not survive. So we would like to end with a big thank you to all the Parents and the Business’s in Bansha that support our club and its young players.
