Homelessness will be highlighted in Clonmel this week as a number of events take place as part of “Simon Week” which runs to Sunday.
South East Simon Community have organised a variety of events to raise awareness and funds for the continuing problems with regards to homelessness around the South East Region.
South East Simon Community team members will be next to Superquinn in a pop up information shop from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday where information about the work Simon does in the community will be available and where they will be asking people to “Take a Step for Simon”
CEO for South East Simon Fiona Lewis says that “raising funds isn’t the only function of “Simon Week” -
“That is obviously important but we also want to raise awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness. Our supporters, volunteers and staff play a vital part in preventing homelessness and Simon Week gives the opportunity to celebrate the work that is on-going in the South East”.
She added - “Simon week allows us to remind people that everyone has a role to play in ending homelessness and to encourage people to get involved in volunteering, participating in events and sponsoring the work being done.
South East Simon attended the Simon Communities of Ireland Soccer Tournament in Athlone recently. The day hosted by Midlands Simon was a huge success. The Clonmel team played brilliantly, managing to get to the semi finals, where unfortunately Simon Galway got the better of them. Staff members Elaine Tobin and Catherine White attended the games and Catherine also played as the female member of the team. A big thank you to Willie Burke who organised the team for the day.
