Martin Quinn, chairman of the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary Town and past national president of Muintir na Tíre received the Tipperary Association Dublin’s Person of the Year on Saturday night last.
Presenting the award in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel Dublin, the Association’s President, Liam Myles, said Mr Quinn’s list of involvement and achievements in local, community and sporting groups – at parish, town, county and national level - is most impressive and reflects a lifetime of dedicated service to others as a volunteer. Liam referred to Mr Quinn’s impressive list of community and sporting involvement and achievements as a comprehensive record of unselfish dedication over many years and said that his passion and interest in his local community has done much to enhance his local area.
“His wider influence in terms of promoting Tipperary through the Tipperary Peace Convention Award sets him above most, if not all, other community activists. This is what sets him apart and it was a strong influence in his deserved selection as Tipperary Person of the Year for 2012.” Mr Quinn has made a remarkable recovery after surviving a series of strokes earlier this year.
