Clonmel gets set for medieval merriment

The inaugural Festival Cluain Meala’s ‘Gathering of 3’ is ongoing this week after the super success of the first event, the Suir Valley 3-Day international cycle race which was won by Carrick-on-Suir’s Sam Bennett last weekend.

The heritage aspect of the festival is currently taking the and on Friday August 9, the popular Medieval Inn Trail takes place once again when those of a medieval mindset will don the appropriate dresses, robes and costumes as they embark on a trail of Clonmel’s finest Inns. There are two routes this year and you can register at the South Tipperary County Museum (052 61 34552). Costumes are available to hire for the night, or else you can bring your own.

Old St Mary’s is the venue for a special concert this Saturday August 10 as Banna Cluain Meala and special guests, perform. There will be a barbecue after the concert and tickets costing 5, can be purchased from Premier Music. On Sunday August 11 Gordon Street car park will be taken over for the Medieval Family Fun Day. This will be a magical end to the inaugural Festival Cluain Meala with lots of free medieval fun including archery, combat school, re-enactments, Bui Bolg, four-lane lane climbing wall and much more!
