Clonmel Theatre Guild launch their Autumn season on October 1-3 with the iconic Willy Russell play ‘Shirley Valentine’.
This production will be directed by Patricia Harte who is well known to many patrons of theatre in Clonmel as an actress and director. Popular actor Sean Bergin is the assistant director for this play which will be staged in Raheen House Hotel.
Russell’s hilarious and often poignant masterpiece ‘Shirley Valentine’ tells the story of a bored Liverpool housewife who is fed up being taken for granted by her husband and children. When the offer of a two-week vacation in Greece comes her way she leaves a note, packs her bags and heads off for some rest and relaxation. What follows is a hilarious fortnight of romance and a new awakening of what life can really be like with a little effort. This story will strike a chord with many.
Amanda Kirwan will play the lead role of Shirley. Her comic genius and integrity make this an ideal role for her. The play will also feature Paul Kelly (Joe and headmaster), Jessica Philips (Mallandra), Maggie Morrissey (Jane), Carol Acheson (Majorie Majors and Gillian), Karl Clancy (Costas), David Walshe (Bryan) and Ann Loh as the headmistress.
So remember to keep these dates free and to book early to avoid being disappointed. Clonmel Theatre Guild would like to thank the people of Clonmel and surrounding areas for their continued support.
Readings for the next production will take place in September. Details to follow soon and anyone wishing to getting involved on or off stage will be very welcome.
