Everyone remembers ‘the Summer in Dublin’ - even if they weren’t there to smell the ‘liffey as it stank like hell’.
Such is the power of that classic tune by Irish music legends, Bagatelle, ‘Summer in Dublin’ had the ability to transport you to a different time and place, simply through the lyrics and the music. Surely that is the measure of success.
Well this weekend the Bagatelle crew, who are celebrating 35 years in the business, will be transported to Clonmel as they feature as one of the headline acts in the annual Clonmel Busking Festival, when undoubtedly that classic song will be played to much applaud.
And to make it even more special, 33 years after the song hit the Irish charts, the tune recently made it back into the Irish charts once again, aided by 2FM DJ Will Leahy who used the song for the official launch of Ireland’s Summer 2013!
It is estimated that there are over 100 cover versions of the song in Ireland, Canada, America, Australia and the UK and who knows, you may well hear a few more on the streets of Clonmel this weekend too. But if you want to hear the real thing by these Irish rock icons, as well as other Bagatelle greats such as Second Violin, Trump Card, Leeson Street Lady and more, catch them play in the Coachman on Sunday August 11 at 10.30pm. All proceeds from Clonmel Busking Fetsival go to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
