It has been sixty years since the Texaco Children’s Art Competition was first held and now the search to find the young artists who will win awards in this year’s competition is under way.

The competition has a distinguished past winners list that includes: Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn TD; artists Dorothy Cross, Graham Knuttel and Robert Ballagh; fashion designer Paul Costello; broadcasters Thelma Mansfield and Terry Prone; ICTU General Secretary David Begg; actor Jean Anne Crowley; and musician Ethna Tinney.

It is an established part of the annual educational landscape in which some 30,000 students compete for the top prizes in seven age categories, including one exclusively devoted to special needs students.

The closing date for entries is Friday, February 28. Judging will take place in March and winners will be announced in mid-April, with prize giving to follow in mid-May.
