URGENT NAPPY APPEAL

The Clonmel branch of the Chernobyl Children’s International (CCI) is urgently seeking donations nappies for their annual nappy appeal. The branch members would be so grateful if people could purchase a packet of nappies while shopping, that can be donated to Carol Morrissey, branch chairperson. The nappies are required urgently for children in orphanages in Belarus and will be shipped out in the second week in May.

HEALTH WORKSHOPS

Health Workshop suitable for complete beginners! Sunday May 19 at St. Oliver’s Parish Centre from 11am – 3pm, a light lunch will be provided. Workshop will consist of: discussion of how western and oriental medicine view illness; gentle Exercises that help to improve circulation and mobility; pressure point stimulation to ease headaches, sinus issues, low energy levels and sleep disorders. GIY CLONMEL

GIY Clonmel will be hosting a seed sowing demo to get your growing off to a good start, on Thursday 25 April, in Clonmel library at 7pm sharp, and free of charge. Refreshments included and all very welcome.

HILLVIEW LOTTO:

On Saturday 6th April 2013 the Hillview lotto Jackpot was worth €2,800. The numbers drawn were 2, 7, 9,19. There was no winner of the Jackpot. There were five tickets with three numbers. Each receives €20.

On Saturday 13th April 2013 the Hillview Lotto Jackpot was worth €2,900. The numbers drawn were 6, 8, 11, 23. There was no winner of the Jackpot. There were six tickets with three numbers. Each receives €20.

The next lotto draw will take place on Saturday 20 April 2013. The Jackpot will be worth €3,000. Tickets are €1 each and can be bought from ticket sellers and at the Club Bar. Buy-ins for 2013 are now due, they are available at €45 for one year. If you’re not in you can’t win.

CLONMEL WRITERS’ CLUB

Meet every Tuesday fortnight in St Mary’s Pastoral Centre, Irishtown at 8pm. Writers and budding writers more than welcome to come along. You can read your work or just come along and listen. FIT4LIFE WORKSHOP

South Tipperary Sports Partnership hosted a very successful Fit4Life Leader Workshop in the Clonmel Bridge Centre last Thursday, 11th April at 7pm. The workshop was free and was open to all Fit4Life groups and those looking to become a Fit4Life Leader. The course was delivered by Steven Macklin of Athletics Ireland and topics covered included developing coaching skills, the components and structure of a session and how to give individuals a positive, enjoyable and relevant fitness experience.

The workshop was well attended with 18 leaders from local Meet & Train groups such as Clonmel AC, Tipperary Town Meet & Train, Cappawhite Running Group, Fethard AC and also Carrick AC. The feedback from the participants was very positive and the leaders together with the Meet & Train regulars will all benefit from the course.

OPEN AIR MASS COOLEENS

An open air mass will take place in the green area at the back of Cooleens Close on Friday May 3 at 6.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

GAME COUNCIL

A cheque to the value of €1,000 was recently presented to Ardfinnan/Ballybacon/Grange/Newcastle Gun club in recognition of its ongoing and very pro-active approach to game conservation. The club has been to the forefront of many conservation projects most notably in the sphere of grouse habitat. The Game Council is delighted to publicly commend the club for its dedication to conservation over a period of four decades. As such this presentation is very well deserved.

WOMEN ASKED

The C.A.R.E. Cancer Support Centre in Clonmel requires walkers/runners to take part in the Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday, June 3, 2013.

MARLFIELD FOREST WALKS

The Glenbawn looped walk (no 69) is also known as the Marlfield Forest Walk and the Rock. They are one and the same and no matter what they are called they are the best of the local free and very enjoyable treasures within walking distance of Clonmel. Work is presently underway on repairing the roadside walls and when completed the Two Bridges Partnership will enhance the top walk which will be suitable for all ages and abilities. We are looking for a volunteer who can calculate the calories which are burned when walking the different routes. We intend to mark the different routes with the calorie burn count as a guide to fitness and help in the transformation process. SEMRA RECRUITING

South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association is now recruiting new mountain rescue team members to commence training in September 2013. The team is looking for hill walkers and climbers who have good mountaineering and team working skills and a good knowledge of the mountains of the South East. A significant time commitment can be expected to be involved in training and callouts.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT

The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind are looking for volunteers in the Clonmel/South Tipperary area to become ‘puppywalkers’. Take on a pup for one year and give it exposure to different situations so that we have a loving, well behaved and socialised dog at the end to go into training. FUNDRAISING QUIZ IN DALY’S PUB

On April 19 there will be a fundraising table quiz in Liam Daly’s pub - old mobile phones collected in exchange for computers for Clonmel children with autism. A table of four people will cost €20, quizmasters on the night will be Pat English and Ken Horne and there wil also be a raffle on the night. Everyone is welcome to attend the quiz which starts at 8.30pm.

FETHARD CAR BOOT SALE

The Fethard Car Boot Sale is a family-run market which opens every Sunday and bank holiday Monday. It is one of the largest and longest running car boot dales in the country attracting customers and stall holders from all over Ireland. Situated at the former railway station goods store, now a museum, the car boot sale is a highly organised weekly event. Every Sunday stall holders arrive and commence set up at 9.45am and the sale opens to the public at 10.45am. Every Friday at the community hall in Cahir between 9am - 12pm we hold our market. We have been trading for 35 years and would like to thank our customers for supporting us.
