Having a splashing time

Did you know that babies have natural reflexes, allowing them to instinctively hold their breath when submerged?

Did you know that babies have natural reflexes, allowing them to instinctively hold their breath when submerged?

That is why leading baby swim school, Water Babies, is the perfect place for your tiny tot to test the waters.

A new term for Water Babies started in Clonmel on November 16, with innovative baby swimming classes on offer, taught by world class instructors.

The award-winning programme teaches vital water confidence and safety skills from birth, and the overall aim is to teach parents to teach their baby how to swim. Husband and wife team Elaine and George Dunne, who brought Water Babies classes to Tipperary last year, teach weekly classes to babies from 12lbs to 12 months, and toddlers aged one to three in the Ferryhouse pool, Clonmel.

“Water Babies is such magical experience for babies. They absolutely love the sensation of floating in warm water. The repetitive movements of bouncing and splashing provide a great stimulation for their sense of motion and balance,” explains Elaine.

The Water Babies programme, which is designed to make the most of babies’ natural affinity with water, teaches confidence and safety, using specialist techniques that see many swimming short distances from as young as 30 months. Baby swimming is an entirely safe and gentle activity, a wonderful way to exercise and have fun with your baby. Call 051-397444 or email monkeymonkey@waterbabies.ie
