A severe lightning strike in Clonmel last December caused €10,000 of damage to the Poulvanogue water treatment plant, located on the Mountain Road.

A chlorine pump, flow recorders and signal panel were all damaged in the early hours of December 21, during a heavy storm. Town engineer Jonathan Cooney said there was no impact on water qaulity as it was promptly repaired .
