The Carers Association are urging people in Tipperary to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of family carers by nominating them for a Carer of the Year or Young Carer of the Year Award.
A family carer of the year from each county in Ireland will be chosen from entries and those selected will be invited to a special awards ceremony in Dublin on November 5 where the winners will be announced.
People are especially being encouraged to nominate and reward the work of young carers across Tipperary, carers under the age of 18, who are carrying out significant caring tasks for another person. There are over 7,000 local carers in Tipperary providing remarkable levels of unpaid care in the home to frail older people, those terminally ill and with disabilities.
The Carers of the Year Awards and Young Carer of the Year Award 2013, sponsored by Tunstall Emergency Response, celebrates the enormous contribution of family carers across Ireland who provide unpaid care in the home to their loved ones. All entries will receive a commemorative certificate and a special ceremony will be held in Dublin on November 5th honouring family carers from across the country. The awards will be presented by broadcasters and patrons of The Carers Association Mary Kennedy and Marty Whelan.
“The awards acknowledge the dedication and work of family carers across Tipperary and Ireland. Family caring is a labour of love and recognising their dedication and commitment to providing care in the home has never been more important as family carers are under increasing pressure and facing further cutbacks in the upcoming budget. This is an opportunity to celebrate carers and their round-the-clock dedication to their loved ones.” said Catherine Cox, The Carers Association.
