Basically it’s similar to being in a disco, partying with just your buddies. To be more technical Zumba is a Latin inspired dance/aerobics fitness class incorporating moves such as Salsa, Merangue, Cubia, Reggaton with Hip Hop and Samba plus your own flare. If you haven’t heard of Zumba you’ve probably been under a big rock, and for those of you who haven’t tried it out, it’s time to join the other 14 million zumbathletes across 150 countries who part take in Zumba every week. And the benifits are endless: increases fitness levels; improves cardiovascular system, making heart stronger; promotes weight loss, can burn up to 750 calories per class; suits all fitness levels and ages; tones and strengthens the body; improves co-ordination; improves health; improves mood, feel-good feeling; improves happiness; and it’s fun, fun, fun!

It’s the type of exercise that becomes addictive, and once you’re hooked, can become a great and tough workout. You should attend a class at least three times at the beginning to start recognising the repititions in dances and really start to enjoy it. Variety in classes can be incredible, music so catchy and up to date, to suit everyone. The most amazing element to Zumba, from an instructor’s point of view is the constant update of choreography and music, which constantly improves and keeps fitness classes fresh. This updating doesn’t happen with other types of exercises, which can be a downfall with a lot of other types of fitness classes. It’s impossible to get bored in Zumba as long as you go to a good instructor.

Zumba Toning

This class is a branch off the main Zumba fitness. Zumba Toning is a body sculpting class using toning sticks (light weights). Like Zumba it involves dancing and engages other muscle groups to tone up abs, thighs and bum if done correctly. It is so nice to mix and match your weekly fitness routine with Zumba and Zumba Toning.

Zumba Kids

Children will learn fitness dances through rhythms and styles of music. Formally know as Zumbatomic, Zumba Kids targets the youth with adapted Zumba moves and music. Zumba kids aged 8-12 and Zumba junior aged 4-7 have now replaced Li’l starz and Big starz. Zumba kids has the added bonus of activities and games towards end of the class for even more fun. Kids get to keep fit, they improve their health and co-ordination, and make new friends. It works on leadership, respect,
teamwork and creativity.

Zumbathon

These are charity events designed to raise money through a big party. Not only are you helping those in need but you get to experience a fitness party like no other. The atmosphere is incredible with energy, music, a workout, prizes and fun. The lastest Zumbathon to hit Clonmel will be held by Kool School in association with Tipperary Strictly Come Dancing in aid of the Clonmel branch of Chernobyl Children International.
