Chamber and traders’ association support barriers

Clonmel Chamber and the Association of Clonmel Traders (ACT) support the plan to install controlled barriers to Mary Street Car Park.

Clonmel Chamber and the Association of Clonmel Traders (ACT) support the plan to install controlled barriers to Mary Street Car Park.

CEO of Clonmel Chamber Brian Cleary said the Chamber took soundings from their almost-250 members on the car parking plans for Clonmel, including a number of businesses on Mary Street, O’Connell Street and Gladstone Street.

“The Chamber represents all its business members, but if businesses want their voices to be heard they should join up,” he said.

Anne Marie Breen, chairperson of ACT and owner of Tivoli Cards on Gladstone Street said she fully supports the barrier plan, adding that all businesses in the town need to focus on the bigger picture of attracting customers to Clonmel. This system will only encourage them to stay longer she believes. Echoing Mr Cleary, she added: “You can’t stay sitting on the fence until something comes to your own door, people’s participation in an organisation is up to themselves but to be informed about what is going on you need to be a member of either the ACT or Chamber,” she said.
