The Crime Prevention Officer (CPO) role that was vacant for more than two years in the Tipperary Garda Divsion, has finally been filled.

The appointment has been welcomed by local FG Cllr Joe Leahy, who has previously highlighted the the delay in appointing a CPO.

“This position has been vacant since the summer of 2011 which is quite alarming,” said Cllr Leahy, a retired garda and current president of The Security Institute of Ireland.

“The CPO plays a very important role within the local community. The CPO encourages, promotes and advises on all aspects of crime prevention, and can be of huge assistance to businesses and groups such as Neighbourhood Watch and Community Alert in all matters concerning the security and safety of homes and premises.”
