Two Clonmel ladies made a decision five weeks ago to change their lifestyle by re-introducing exercise and healthier eating to their days and diets. Gillian O’Sullivan and Fiona O’Brien, in conjunction with Beat 102-103, Unislim and Showgrounds Shopping Centre Clonmel, partook in the Let’s Get Physical challenge where six women from across the South East, were given the opportunity to transform themselves and their lives.

Gillian trained in Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort under the watchful eye of personal trainer Joanne, while Fiona, a Clonmel native who now lives in Kilkenny, trained in the Escape Health Club at the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny.

After a tough five weeks of bootcamp sessions, early morning gym classes, and constant monitoring of their diet, Joanne, Fiona and the other four contestants lost over 75lbs between them.

The finalé of the challenge was broadcast last weekend on Beat 102 103 with Teresanne O’Reilly hosting the event in the Showgrounds Shopping Centre Clonmel where crowds of onlookers and supporters turned out. The winner of the challenge was determined by who lost the highest percentage body weight over the five weeks. Gillian and Fiona were both runners-up in the competition with Maeve Dempsey from Waterford, winning the overall challenge.

Speaking about her experience, Gillian said she really enjoyed the challenge.

“I never could have done this without the gym, or without my Unislim leader, and I really learned to enjoy exercise over the course of the challenge.

And with Fiona getting married in Tipperary this Summer, she said this challenge gave her the motivation to continue her weight loss goals.

“Since I got engaged 18 months ago, I lost one-and-a-half stone on my own, but I wanted to do this challenge because I needed help to lose the last half stone before my big day, and now I have done that I feel great. Thanks to Beat for giving me this opportunity.”
