Holders Tipperary surrendered their All-Ireland Senior Hurling title on Sunday when they were beaten by Kilkenny by 4 points in Sunday’s Final at Croke Park.

Kilkenny started strongly and were 5 points ahead when Noel McGrath scored Tipp’s first point after 16 minutes. Tipp gradually came back into the game but Kilkenny got a boost of a goal from Michael Fennelly 5 minutes before half time, which helped them lead at the interval by 1-8 to 0-6.

Tipp’s cause looked a lost one when Richie Hogan fired home a superb second goal for Kilkenny in the 49th minute, which gave them an 8-points lead. Tipp were given hope when half time substitute Pa Bourke drove home a goal 15 minutes from the end to cut the deficit to 4 points.

But they could never reel in Kilkenny, who ran out deserving winners.
