ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE
Well done to the Tipperary senior hurlers on their victory by 4-22 to 1-20 over Galway in last Monday’s Allianz hurling league game at Pearse Stadium. Tipperary will play Waterford at Walsh Park next Sunday at 2.30pm in their penultimate game of the round robin series. Tipperary and Waterford have met on 40 previous occasions in the Hurling League. Tipperary lead the way with 31 wins, Waterford were victorious on 6 occasions and there have been 3 draws. Waterford’s last victory was in the 2007 quarter-final at Nowlan Park. Their last league game in Walsh Park was on February 8 2009 when Tipperary won by 2-13 to 1-12. Their last 3 league encounters were all at Semple Stadium which resulted in 2 wins for Tipperary in 2011 and 2012 and a draw in 2010.
With two rounds to go in this year’s league campaign, any 3 of the 6 teams could still qualify for the semi-finals and none is yet clear of relegation fears so it’s very much all to play for in the remaining two games. Tipperary’s final game will be against Clare in Semple Stadium on Easter Sunday, March 31.
ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE
It was a good weekend for the Tipperary footballers also and their victory by 0-15 to 0-9 over Limerick at Pairc na nGael on Saturday last puts them right back in contention for promotion from Division 4. Limerick still top the table with 8 points but Tipperary and Offaly are both in close pursuit with 6 points each. Tipperary’s next game is on Sunday next at Semple Stadium at 2pm against Leitrim.

NENAGH SELECTED FOR HEALTHY CLUBS PROJECT
Nenagh Eire Og is one of 18 clubs selected nationally to participate in Phase 1 of the Healthy Club Project initiative, which was launched recently at Croke Park. GAA clubs all over the world already provide great health benefits for their players, members and communities alike. Yet there exists continuous demand from clubs for guidance in many areas relating to health promotion including: healthy eating and diet, drug and alcohol awareness, mental well-being and resilience development, suicide prevention and response, the promotion of health and wellbeing through physical activity, and activities for older and non-playing members. “The GAA Healthy Club Project aims to highlight and re-enforce the great work already being done by clubs while assisting them in identifying and responding to the most important health issues amongst their membership and in their communities,” GAA President, Liam O’Neill said at the launch. “This collaboration is an extension of the long-standing partnership between the Health Sector and the GAA through the Association’s ASAP (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention) Programme, and we hope this project will further assist clubs and their communities to respond to their health needs in a holistic way at grass roots level,” added Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health. The Eire Og club represented by Michael Geaney, Chairman Juvenile Club, Anne Kennedy, Secretary, Juvenile Club, and Jim Nagle, Chairman Senior Club. attended the launch in Croke Park. Michael will be the Project Leader for this initiative in the club. The project is being directed at national level by a Croke Park Project Team and Steering Committee featuring representatives from the GAA, HSE, National Office of Suicide Prevention, the third level education sector (DCU and Carlow IT) and the Irish Sports Council. Four Operational Groups will assist in its roll-out at provincial level, tapping into support and expertise at GAA Provincial Council level, Local Sports Partnerships, and regional Health Promotion units, plus their northern counterparts. The clubs will also be encouraged to reach out to their wider membership and communities in order to tap into some of the exceptional skills people have in this area.
