Darren Prout receives call-up to Irish team

Darren Prout won the Triple Jump at the Tailteann Championship held in Santry last Saturday in very windy conditions with a fine jump of 12.66m. This has earned Darren his first international cap on the Irish Schools team when he will compete on July 21st in Ashford, Kent, England. Not to be outdone by his brother Darren, Shane Prout won the U-23 All Ireland Championship Triple Jump Title with a jump of 13.01m.

At the same championship Shane O’Dwyer was second in the All Ireland Junior High Jump with a clearance of 1.95m and was beaten only by 3cm. This was a great acheavement for Shane who has just returned from a college placement in Alaska. Hannah Trehy was second in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 70.2s.

County B Championships

The County B Track and Field Championships for U-9 to U-14 took place recently in Templemore with Ian Holloway (U-13) winning double Golds and Eoin Morgan, Natalie Gilman, Lynn Vermeer, Caoimhe Power, Chloe Hall and Laura Whelan also winning individual titles. Many club athletes won medals in the fun relays.

Girls U-9 - Natalie Gillman won the Long Jump with a personal best jump of 2.66m, Tara Peters was third in the 60m Sprint.

Girls U-10 - Lynn Vermeer won the Long Jump with a fine personal best jump of 3.42m and she was third in the 60m Sprint. Caoimhe Power won the 60m Sprint.

Girls U -11 - Chloe Hall won the Long Jump with a personal best jump of 3.55m, and was second in the 60m Sprint. Ruby Ware was second with a jump of 2.90m and Marian Gilman was third in the 60m Sprint. Allanah Twohig was second in the 500m.

Girls U -12 - Laura Whelan had a great day when she won the 600m and she came second in the 80m Sprint.

Girls U-13 - Alice Browning was fourth in the Shot Putt with a throw of 6.37m.

U -9 Boys - Dylan Peters was third in the 60m Sprint.

U-10 Boys - Eoghan O’Neill was second with a jump of 3.29m and third in the 60m Sprint. Owen Butler was second in the Ball Throw with a throw of 24.11m.

Boys U-11 - Eoin Morgan won the Ball Throw with a fine throw of 30.72m.

Boys U-12 - James Daly was third in the Ball Throw with a throw of 30.62m.

Boys U-13 - Ian Halloway won the Shot Putt with a stunning throw of 6.14m and the 60m Sprint.
