Three teams secured their places in the Joe Delaney Youth Cup semi-finals after victories last Saturday. This competition between four U-18 teams from the TSDL and four from the North Tipperary and District League (NTDL) has been held since 2006-07. It has so far been dominated by TSDL sides, with Clonmel Town winning in 2007 and 2008 and St. Michael’s in 2009 and 2010.
Inaugural winners Clonmel Town had to rely on a late goal to get the better of Templemore outfit Blackcastle United in a 3-2 victory in Clonmel. The North Tipp outfit led twice through Liam McGrath and Mark Riordan while Evan Comerford, Colm Kennedy and Conor Kenneally scored in Town’s second half recovery.
Nenagh AFC, the North Tipperary and District League champions, surprised Tipperary Youth Cup, Division 2 Youth Cup and Youth Division 2 winners Clonmel Celtic 5-3 in extra-time, also in Clonmel. Conor Acheson, with a brace, and Hayden Cashman were the Celtic scorers.
Cahir Park travelled to Drombane where they had a 4-1 win over North Tipp outfit Clodiagh Rangers. The Cahir scorers were Eoin Quinlan, with two; Kermo Briyn and Pat Fitzgerald.
Cahir Park will entertain Clonmel Town in the first of these semi-finals this Saturday.
