The new year is here and once again Clonmel Athletic Club have come up with a novel challenge for everyone who wants to Get and Stay Fit for 2014.

The Club challenges all comers, athletes, fun runners and joggers, to the Joe Grinsell 100k Challenge.

During 2013 the Club lost one of its stalwarts with the sudden death of Joe Grinsell. Joe was a brilliant club man, always available to help the club in any way possible and he was ever present at any open or championship fixture in the county regardless of distance.

During 2014 the club will be organising 29 races with a combined distance of 170 kms. All these races have been granted an Athletics Ireland Race Permit.

The distances of these races range from 4k to Half Marathon but if you select the right races you can achieve this challenge by just running distances of 4k to 6K and these are spread throughout 2014,

So are you up for this challenge?. If you are and if you achieve the 100k you will receive a long sleeve training top, the Joe Grinsell 100k Challenge specially designed to mark your achievement.

There is no entry fee for this challenge. All you have to do is enter the races as normal and Clonmel Athletic Club will look after the rest.

The New Year 4k Series

This very popular series gets underway this Wednesday, January 8, at 7pm and continues every Wednesday night up to and including Wednesday, February 12 which is our Charity Run.

Entries will be taken at the Brothers of Charity carpark from 6.15pm onwards and all participants must wear a high viz top.

This is an ideal event to get you started for 2014 as the course is relatively flat and with over 100 participants taking part you will have plenty of company on the route.

In a recent survey in England 39% of the runners surveyed only took up running when they were between 25 and 34 years of age, never too late.

Training can be hard if you are training on your own so with that in mind we are delighted to announce that the regular Monday night training sessions for Ladies 7 to 8pm and for Men 8.15 to 9.30 pm have resumed at our facilities at the Dr Pat O’Callaghan Sports Complex where all levels of fitness are catered for.

For further details please contact Nicola at 0868148328 or Ivan at 0872866414. It is also worth noting that this series of race kick starts the Joe Grinsell 100k Challenge and getting in this 6 race series will see you covering 24k of the 100k Challenge, a brilliant start. For further details please contact Niall at 086 1660888.
