Carrick Goal Mile raises €3,700

Carrick AC would like to thank all who came to Ormond Castle on Christmas morning for the seventh annual ‘Goal Mile’ to be held in Carrick-on-Suir.

Carrick AC would like to thank all who came to Ormond Castle on Christmas morning for the seventh annual ‘Goal Mile’ to be held in Carrick-on-Suir.

The event was once again a great success and a total of €3,700 was raised for this most worthy cause.

Thanks to all who contributed so generously and especially to Mags Power and her many helpers who collected in the town on the Saturday before Christmas.

Clonmel 4-mile Race

The annual 4-mile road race organised by Clonmel AC once again attracted a large entry on Saint Stephen’s Day. Victory in the men’s race went to Eoin Everard from Kilkenny City Harriers in a time of 18:59.

Siobhan O’Doherty from Borrisokane AC set a new course record of 21:50 in taking the ladies’ event.

Tommy Falconer (22:58) was the first Carrick AC runner to finish.

Andrew Downey clocked 23:46 and Brendan Cronin took second place in the O/50 category with a time of 24:14. Michael Freaney (27:10), Matt Greene (29:35), Josephine O’Dwyer (30:06) and Ann Cronin (31:51) were the other Carrick AC finishers. Well done to all our runners

‘Baldy Man’ 8k Beach Run

Carrick AC’s Brian Murphy finished 2013 with a fine victory in the annual ‘Baldy Man’ Run in Tramore.

Brian covered the very testing 8k in a time of 30:54.

Tommy Falconer (35:40), Tom Egan (39:41) and Geraldine Houlihan (55:20) also represented the club and will have been very pleased with their performances.

Martin On Irish team

Congratulations to Hillview Sports Club’s Martin Ormond who has been selected to play on the Irish Vets Tennis Team in an International Tournament scheduled for Florida in 2014. This is in recognition of his great year in winning most of the Vets tournaments in the Southern area. Martin also represented Munster in the Inter provincial championships held in Belfast.

Evan Fitzgerald at 
NationalS

Evan Fitzgerald competed well at the National Indoor Tennis Championship in Dublin over the Christmas period. Evan was ranked 6th in the under 14 section and won a few rounds before eventually losing at the quarter final stage.

New Years Eve 
Tournament

We had a good competitive tournament on New Year’s Eve evening, and welcomed back Ulrik Nyberg from Sweden.

The winners were Paul Foley and Cora Morrissey.
