Skeheenarinky hit the front deep into injury time to break Kildangan hearts in Saturday’s County Junior A Hurling Championship semi-final in Cashel.
The warm weather seemed to subdue both teams until the game eventually came to life late on. After a close first half, which ended level at 0-8 each, Kildangan took over early in the second half. However then it was like as if someone handed over the keys and Skeheenarinky got into the driving seat to reach the County final against Nenagh Éire Óg.
Eoin Morrissey got Skeehen’s first point and when Kildangan led 0-4 to 0-1 their forwards sparked into life with three points from the excellent Conor Sweeney and a free from Fionnan O’Sullivan.
A two-point salvo put Skeheen’ ahead, Conor Sweeney’s free followed by a great catch and score from his cousin Tommy Sweeney.
The exchanges early in the second half were close but when Kildangan led 0-15 to 0-10 with 7 minutes remaining the game looked to be over.
Skeheen’ fought back with three points from Conor Sweeney and one from Shane Lynch. Paddy Lynch converted a Kildangan free to give them a two-point cushion in injury time and they thought they had it won. However a great goal by Noel Vaughan followed by a point sealed a sensational victory.
