Bansha Celtic and Moyglass United win in Paddy Purtill Cup

Bansha Celtic 2 - 1 St Michaels B

Bansha Celtic 2 - 1 St Michaels B

Bansha Celtic had enough chances to win this a lot easier but gave their opponents right till the end of the game. The home side scored the first goal in the seventh minute from Niall Daly when his unstoppable shot found the top right hand corner. Celtic then went two up on the half hour when Darren McGrath finished a fine move from down the right and shot home from six yards out. They then squandered numerous chances and let Saints back into it when a mistake in midfield gifted them the ball which at the 2nd attempt was tapped in by Timmy Dalton just before half time. The second half saw more chances come on go from both sides but it stayed at 2 - 1 till the final whistle and the home team advanced.

Galbally United 2 – 3 Moyglass United

Both teams served up a great game here but it was the away team that advanced to the next round, beating a gallant Galbally United team right at the death. The home team opened the scoring after 20 minutes through Kieran O’Callaghan but were pegged back on the half hour when Ashley Lasslett equalised for Moyglass. Galbally retook the lead five minutes from the break when the evergreen Quinn Perry was on the end of some good work by his team mates to slot home and give his side the lead at the break. On the hour, Laslett popped up again for the visitors, and despite both teams having chances, this game looked destined for extra time. That was until with practically the last kick of the game, Michael Griffin beat the home defence and slotted past the despairing Galbally keeper to put his side in the hat for the next round of the competition.
