John Giles, on his first visit to Tipperary town, was very impressed with the playing surface of St. Michael’s, which he said was far superior to many League of Ireland sides, and he complimented the staff on a job well done.

He presented cheques to Clonmel Town (€5,500), Peake Villa (€3,500) and Ballymackey FC (€2,000) towards ongoing developments.

Clonmel Town were the top side in the TSDL to collect funds for the Walk of Dreams fundraiser, receiving an extra €500 from the League. Other recipients were Cahir Park (€300) and Two Mile Borris (€200).

The TSDL also gave €500 directly to the John Giles Foundation, whose fund-raising goes towards clubs throughout Ireland that provide football facilities for the youth in disadvantaged areas. It is hoped that an even bigger turnout will make the 2012 Walk of Dreams.

Other companies that deserve support in these cash-strapped times are O’Neill’s, the main sponsors of the John Delaney Cup, and Darren Ward Jewellers of Cahir.
