With their hurling campaign at an end, the South side can concentrate on their football now, but on this showing, a big improvement will be required if they are to make progress in either the county or division.

Once Noel McGrath got the Loughmore goal after 11 minutes, to put them 1-2 to 0-1 ahead, there was little doubt about the outcome. Even without 11 possible first choices, the Mid men were far too strong for their rivals and by half-time were 1-7 to 0-2 clear.

Edwin O Meara’s goal for Mullinahone in the 46th minute, after an excellent move out of defence involving Eoin Kelly and James Connolly, left them eight points adrift but there was never a suggestion of a match-saving rally.

Unbeaten after three outings Loughmore-Castleiney are guaranteed their place in the closing stages. At full strength they will press hard for county honours.
