Clonmel Celtic 2 – 4 Clonmel Town

Clonmel Celtic 2 – 4 Clonmel Town

Former Munster Youth champions Clonmel Celtic fell to a disappointing 4-2 defeat to Clonmel Town on Saturday afternoon in a hotly contested local derby game. The visitors were the better side in the first half and a double from Stephen Kelly saw them 2-0 up after half an hour. Celtic were showing signs of improvement before the break and the woodwork denied them late on in the first half.

The home team started the second half well and it was game on after 50 minutes when Michael Nugent scored to make it 2-1. However just two minutes later came the turning point of the game and a double blow for Celtic. They conceded a penalty and lost a player to a red card and were two goals down when Ian McGrath fired home the penalty.

Celtic battled on and with quarter of an hour left Keith Hackett scored from the spot to reduce the lead to the minimum again and set up a grandstand finish. Mark O’Reilly scored in the last minute to make to end Celtic’s interest in this year’s Munster Youths Cup.

Cashel Town 1 – 7 Peake Villa

Villa kept up their good league form away from home with a good win against Cashel Town on Saturday. They went one up after ten minutes, when Adam Garrett slotted home, and doubled the lead when Dale Loughnane fired home before the break. Cashel bounced back in the second half with a fine goal by Jack Hayes 20 minutes from time. The floodgates then opened and Adam Garrett got a brace within five minutes to complete his hat-trick. Sub Gary Dunne then came on and scored a brace himself, before Aaron Ryan completed the rout late on.
