This hugely competitive division took another twist when Cullen leap frogged near neighbours Galbally United to move away from the relegation zone with a smash and grab victory in the only First Division game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

Galbally United could have opened the scoring in the second minute but saw a Kieran O’Callaghan effort send wide of the mark, and the County Limerick side were unlucky again later in the half when Steven O’Donnell clipped the post with a shot.

All the while the visitors were soaking up the pressure, and made few real efforts on goal, but in the 65th minute they were awarded a corner from which James Power headed home to the shock of the Galbally United supporters.

With a lead to hold onto, the West Tipperary boys sat back and soaked up the pressure, giving the home side little chance to reply, and when they referee blew the whistle at the end, they headed home with three hard earned, and precious points in the bag.
