Ballyporeen and Cashel players among Tipp winners at world championships



Tipperary players excelled at the world championships at City West in Dublin.

Tipp had a large entry in all grades and there were some very impressive displays and some great results.

In the Juvenile grades, in U13 Colin Ryan from Cashel took Gold when he beat Tiernan Agnew in the Final. In the 13 Doubles, Colin partnered by J Cahill from Lahorna had to settle for Silver in the final.

In the U15 Singles, Daniel Hayes beat Fergal Coughlan in the Final. In the U15 Doubles, Jason English & Daniel Hayes were in top form and beat Curry and Fox to capture the World title.

In the Girls U15 Single,s Sinead Meagher, Nenagh gave a great display throughout and took Silver in the Final where she was beaten by Aoibhinn Hennessy. In the Adult Grades, Pat Griffin & Tony O’Flaherty (Youghalarra) took gold in the Golden Masters B Doubles where they beat Paul Ruane and Cyril Kaar in the Final. In the Ruby Masters Doubles Jim Ryan, Silvermines, partnered by Morgan Darcy, Galway, beat Greg Sheridan and Patsy Hand in the final.

In the Silver Masters B Singles final Pat Ryan, Ballyporeen, beat John Cawley, Clare, in the Final. In the Mens C Doubles Final, John Ferncombe and Denis White, Cashel, beat Darren O’Toole and Malachy Whelan from Wexford in the Final.

In the Master B Doubles, Martin McInerney and John Lee, Ballina, were Silver winners where they were beaten in the final.

Many other players from Tipperary competed and gave some great displays to reach quarter and semi finals.
