In the Clonmel Oil Quarter Final of the South Senior Football Championship played in Kilsheelan on Friday last it was definitely a game of two halves.
Clonmel Og had the better of the first 30 minutes and led by 1-6 to 0-4 at the interval. However, coming towards the break both Dara and Shane Kearney suffered injuries with Dara unable to continue.
Commercials introduced Coman Kennedy, Luke Moore and Padraic Looram and with Kennedy in particular stamping his authority on proceedings Commercials clawed their way back.
Clonmel Og scored but one point in the second half their situation not helped by the dismissal of Johnny Cagney at the three-quarters stage.
Commercials’ young guns eventually ran out four points winners and now march on to the divisional semi-final.
The game’s only goal came in the 14th minute. Dara Kearney, operating on the 40, made a powerful run through the middle and his excellent finish gave Evan Comerford no chance in goal.
