In the only game in the second division last weekend Kilmanahan United fought bravely to deny highfliers Redmondstown a third win in a row last Sunday afternoon.

In a tight first half, with very few chances, the only moment of quality came from Redmondstown’s Paddy ‘Whack’ O’Donnell, who chased down a long ball from his own defence to beat two players and score the opening goal of the game.

O’Donnell was very much on the ball again two minutes into the second half when a piledriver 25 yard effort found the net, doubling the away side’s advangage.

The next moment of note in the game turned out to be an ugly melee in which a player from each team was red carded, and crucially the Redmondstown player was their goalkeeper.

This gave Kilmanahan United extra impetus to test his replacement, and they were rewarded five minutes later when Connie Power volleyed home to cut the lead to the minimum.

That lead was wiped out on the 75th minute when again Connie Power showed great awareness to latch onto a quick throw, and he finished to the net to give the teams a share of the spoils.
