Star of the future wins Hillview senior open week in Clonmel

Over 200 players took part in the Ryan Motor Power and Pinewood Healthcare-sponsored open tennis week at Hillview Sports Club with some great matches played. The standard was very high throughout.

Over 200 players took part in the Ryan Motor Power and Pinewood Healthcare-sponsored open tennis week at Hillview Sports Club with some great matches played. The standard was very high throughout.

There was an excellent entry in the premier and other top grade competitions.

Winner of the Men’s Premier Singles was 15 year old Morgan Lohan, Tramore, who beat Tommy Rochford, Kilkenny in the final. Morgan is ranked in the top 5 in under 16s in Ireland.

Brian Fogarty and Gareth McGlinchy, Larkspur won the Grade 1&2 Doubles. Martin Ormonde and Niamh Kennedy came from a set down to beat Grace Durkan and Jaco Oosthysun in the Grade 1&2 Mixed Doubles. Niamh also won the Ladies 1&2 Grades Doubles with Mary Power, Castleview. The prizes were well shared out amongst the clubs, with Larkspur, Castleview, New Inn, Causeway and Kilfeacle doing well.

Other Hillview winners were Cora Morrissey who followed up her success in Dungarvan in the Ladies Grade 6 Singles when she beat Alison Walsh in the Final.

Gerry Burke won the Grade 5 Singles. Runners-up were Deirdre and Paul Garrett in the Grade 6 Mixed, Eugene Cooney and Niall Darcy in the Grade 6 Doubles, also Eugene in the Grade 6 Singles. Ann Durkan was runner-up in the Ladies grade 5 Singles. Gabrielle Cahill and Margaret Foley runners-up in the grade 5 Ladies Doubles. Veteran Michael Murray was runner-up in the grade 4 Men’s Singles.

Eddie O’Brien teamed up with Caroline Bolger, Kilsheelan to be runners-up in the grade 4 mixed.
