MOYNE TEMPLETUOHY 0-5

Clonmel Commercials gained their first win in this year’s County Senior Football Championship when they completely outclassed Moyne/Templetouhy by 4-15 to 0-5 in a one-sided game in Littleton.

First half goals from Ian Barnes and Richie Carroll saw Commercials take total control and by half time they led by 2-9 to 3 points. They got off to a lightning start and were five points clear after just 10 minutes.

Conal McCullagh helped himself to three points in the opening minutes as corner forward Johnny Harney and Michael Quinlivan added to the opening scores.

By the time John Hassett opened Moyne’s account in the 17th minute Commercials already had 2-6 registered. A hard- working Commercials side turned over possession on the Moyne half-back line in the 11th minute and corner forward Ian Barnes, after recovering from a slip, slotted the ball to the net.

And when Richie Carroll pounced on a loose ball two minutes later to fist to the net the game was all but over.

Commercials had the advantage of the breeze in the second half and although substitute Paul Maher opened the half with a Moyne point any thoughts of a fightback were short-lived. Jason Lonergan responded immediately for Commercials and when substitute Ian Fahey goaled in the 6th minute of the half any fight in Moyne/Templetuohy fizzled out.

Commercials continued to dominate and Fahey was on hand again late in the game to claim his side’s fourth goal.

Moyne/Templetouhy were way out of their depth against Commercials and it is difficult to see them re-entering the championship via the divisional route later in the year.

They were well served by county player John Coughlan, captain Louis Everard, Tomas and John Hassett. While outclassed throughout they battled bravely.

Commercials will be pleased to get a win after losing out to Arravale Rovers in their opening game. Seamus Kennedy, Jason Lonergan, Kevin Harney, Niall Kelly, Conal McCullagh, Colman Kennedy and Michael Quinlivan were to the fore all evening but many others contributed well to the win also.

Tougher tests will lie ahead but this will be a tonic for the team as they face into the rest of the championship.
