MOYGLASS UNITED 4 BANSHA CELTIC 0
Moyglass United kept their dream of playing top flight football next season for the first time alive when they put four past Bansha Celtic in this Clonmel Credit Union League Division 1 clash in Moyglass last Sunday.
Moyglass, having already beaten St. Michael’s B 1-0 with a Brian Murphy goal seven days earlier, needed another victory against Bansha Celtic to keep their late-late challenge for the runners-up spot alive. With the disappointment of Paddy Purtill Cup and Tipperary Cup elimination out of the way Moyglass, playing with a strong gale in the first half, went 1-0 up after 4 minutes when Brian Murphy volleyed home from a Michael Lacey cross. Moyglass doubled their lead after 20 minutes with a left-footed strike by Michael Lacey from the corner of the 18 yard box. The second half was an even affair, with Bansha unable to make the wind advantage count. With five minutes left Moyglass made it 3-0 when James Hickey was quickest to react after a John O’Brien shot was parried by the Bansha ‘keeper. Moyglass scored the fourth from a James Hickey penalty with almost the last kick of the game to secure the required victory.
Moyglass move to just four points behind St. Nicholas and are on 26 points. With two games still to play victory in both will see them take second spot.
