County Tipperary Community Games Athletic Finals took place in glorious sunshine in Templemore Athletic Track. Carrick-on-Suir area swept the boards, winning gold medals in nine different events, five in the track and field competitions and four relays - Mixed relays under 10 and under 13, boys under 14 and girls under 16.
Silver medals in three events and bronze medals in five events brought their overall medal haul to seventeen.
Caoimhe Power, winner of a silver medal in the girls under 8 80 metres, is a daughter of a former competitor, Anthony Power, who many people will remember well.
Well done to athletics coach, Emby Walsh, on achieving this feat in such a competitive event.
Clonmel girls, Claire Horgan and her friend Laura Tobin finished first and second in the 7k marathon while Pheobe Murphy won the U-14 100m and Orlaith Moynihan won the 1500m.
There was double gold for the O’Dwyer sisters from Tipperary Town. Emma won the U10 200m and Lara won U12 100m. Great credit is due to their coach, Community Games President, Breeda Christie, who acted as MC for the day.
Aoibhe O’Shea and Leeanne Prout also won double gold for Ballingarry.
Sinead Buckley won the Long Puck for Annacarty and Sean Glasheen from Lattin Cullen won the Shot Putt.
Twin brothers, Darragh and Conor Shelly from Grangemockler, had to be content with silver and bronze medals respectively in the under 14 80m hurdles.
All winners will represent Tipperary at the HSE Community Games National Finals in Athlone on the weekend of August 19-21. Best of Luck to all.
