Anner Gaels and Kilsheelan/Kilcash drew 0-10 each in the Pat Cleere South U-21 hurling championship in terrible conditions in Mullinahone on Saturday.
Colin Gleeson opened the scoring when he pointed for Kilsheelan. Playing with the aid of strong breeze, Anner Gaels dominated the next ten minutes and scored 4 unanswered points, two each from Darren Boland and Cathal Hurley (both frees ). By the quarter hour mark the scores were down to the minimum after Bill Maher (free) and Aaron Larkin pointed for Kilsheelan. Cathal Hurley scored 2 further frees to give Anner Gaels a 3 point lead once again. Kilsheelan levelled with 3 unanswered points, one from Eoin Kehoe from a free and two from Bill Maher. Cathal Hurley scored 2 more points while Eoin Kehoe pulled one back for Kilsheelan to leave the half-time score 8-7 to Anner Gaels.
The second half was a low scoring affair mainly due to the terrible weather conditions which made it hard for both teams to reach their potential. Half-time substitute Alex Harte scored the opening point of the half in the 3rd minute and amazingly this was to be the only score of the first 20 minutes. Kilsheelan went ahead for the first time in the 52nd minute when Eoin Kehoe pointed and their lead was doubled when Alex Harte scored from a free. Cathal Hurley reduced the margin from a free and Mark Slattery hit the equaliser.
