The first round heats of the prestigious Track Supporters Munster Puppy Cup topped the bill and when the two the supporting races which opened proceedings yielded winning times of 29.01 (N1/A6) and 29.06 (A2) fireworks were expected when the major event began. However, on a night of upsets which saw all nine favourites bite the dust, the 29.00 second mark was only twice bettered. Heat four saw the 12/1 chance Vale Park make most of the running to clock 28.94 and in the following heat the well fancied Shaws Active scored in 28.96.

Race 1 (N1/A6) - Blue Aero was supported to even money favourite but Chamberlain Tara made the running from Express Dancer after the jolly had been slowly away.

Express Dancer led approaching the penultimate turn as Blue Aero got into contention and in a good run to the line the leader was all out to hold the strong finishing Blue Aero by a length with Chamberlain Tara four and a half lengths behind in third place. Owned and trained by Michael Dalton in Cashel the winner a daughter of Droopys Scolari and Express Tune closked a smashing 29.01.

Race 2 (A2) - The admirably consistent Hunters Machine went off a 4/1 chance and made all the running in the orange jacket to clock a career best 29.06. The joint favourites Movealong Penny and Suirview Ranger loomed up as big dangers as they turned for home but the leader stayed on in fine style to to take the spoils by half a length and a short head from those rivals.

Races 3,4 & 5 - Heats 1 to 3 of the Track Supporters Club Munster Puppy Cup.

Race 3 - Heat 1 - Paradise Cruz a 28.54 winner at Shelbourne on his debut was the odds-on favourite and this son of Royal Impact and Dalcash Diva was soon in front after Glengall Flash had led briefly. Despite running wide at the third bend the favourite still led on the turn for home but Shaneboy Chip and Riversside Luke closed strongly and it was Riverside Luke which came from a long way back that got the verdict by a head from the favourite with Shaneboy Chip half a length back in third place two lengths ahead of the fourth qualifier Glengall Flash. Owned in Marlfield, Clonmel by the No Excuses Syndicate the winner a son of College Causeway and Riverside Trixie clocked 29.09 in breaking his maiden at the sixth attempt. He is trained by James J. Frisby.

Race 4 - Heat 2 - Tolpuddle Steve went off the 7/4 market leader and set out to make all the running tracked by Shaneboy William. The favourite still led on the turn for home but Shaneboy William got his head in front only to be immediately tackled by the flying Express Hero. They passed the line together and the photo showed that Shaneboy William (Droopys Scolari-Shaneboy Maria) had taken the spoils by the narrowest of margins with Tolpuddle Steve a length back in third just a neck in front of Mikos Bullet.

Race 5 - Heat 3 - Cabra Millie a winner of her only race in 28.33 in Limerick was an odds-on chance but the recent A2 Bitch Stake winner in Clonmel Ko Phi Phi broke very fast and although the favourite ran on well she was still a length and a half in arrears of Ko Phi Phi at the line with the minor placings going to Tooclosetocall and Memories Tune.

Race 6 - The Red Mills A0/A1 525 - Easy to back at 7/2 Riddel made all the running in the blue jacket to hold the challenge of a gallant Sunoak Riah by a length and a half with Clerihan Scolari a length back in third place.

Races 7, 8 & 9 - Heats 4, 5 & 6 of The Track Supporters Club Munster Puppy Cup.

Race 7 - Heat 4 - Boherna House was supported to 5/4 to give the hard pressed punters a little relief but the 12/1 chance Vale Park led off the opening bends and romped clear to record an impressive 28.94 maiden win by three and a half lengths from Incitatus with the favourite a length and a half back in third just ahead of Fahrenheit Manny.

Race 8 - Heat 5 - Barefoot Henry, Paul Hennessy’s only runner in the event, was the 6/4 favourite with Shaws Active a 7/4 chance. The jolly was slowly away and it was Shaws Active which seized the initiative on the rails and proceeded to make all the running to defeat Avalon Soldier and Soho Storm by a length and a half and the same with the favourite running on late to take the remaining qualifying spot. The winner a son of Ace Hi Rumble and Shaws Review owned and trained in Cappawhite by Jim Armshaw clocked 28.96.

Race 8 - Heat 6 - The evening ended with an incident packed event which went to the locally owned 4/1 chance Brunswick Jenny which finished strongly to defeat Memories Dash by a short head with Paradise Martini two and a half lengths back in third and Shaws Benabi the same distance away in fourth spot.

Clonmel Track -

Thursday, October 13

The final event of the evening, the fourth heat of the Mary O’Reilly and Track Supporters Club A4 Tri-Distance Stake, produced the top performance which was posted by the 3/1 chance Ballinaglera Ace which was recording his third success in impressive fashion. Distant Delight in the red jacket went off the even money favourite and set the pace before Ballinaglera Ace took control on the back straight and raced away to record a two and a half length win over the favourite with Gimme Spartan five lengths back in third place.

Also featured on the card were the opening heats of the Knockgraffon Coursinbg Club N2/N3 Unraced Stake and here the best time was recorded by the winner of the opening heat Heavens Comet which stopped the clock in 29.75.

Race 1 (S5 or lower) - Find The Way was the 6/4 market leader but he found one too good in the shape of the 2/1 chance Shunters Koala which made all the running in the blue jacket to defeat the favourite by three lengths in 16.68 with Sunoak Ebony a length and a half back in third spot.

Races 2 to 4 - Heats 1 to 3 of the Knockgraffon Coursing Club N2/N3 Unraced Stake.

Race 2 - Heat 1 - This produced a good buckle between Heavens Comet and the even money favourite Soviet Rooney who had it between them from trap rise and finished some ten lengths clear of the third home. Heavens Comet owned and trained by Joe O’Neill in Rathangan set out to make all and this son of Blue Savings and Zipolip was pressed every inch of the way by Soviet Rooney but kept on pulling out a little bit more and had a head in hand of his rival on the line.

Race 3 - Heat 2 - Only two counted in the market, Duke Box Melody which went off the 11/10 favourite and the 6/4 chance Expert Jet, and they eventually filled the first two places in that order.

Race 4 - Heat 3 - Kenwood Survivor headed the market and soon led from the fast breaker Mertesacker. The leader stumbled off the opening bends but retained his advantage until Terranova Kid challenged between the final bends and raced clear to score by three and a half lengths from the favourite with the other places in the second round going to Town Clerk and Mertesacker. Terranova Kid a 2/1 chance owned and trained in Cahir by Jack and Billy Shealy is a son of Royal Impact and Abbeyside Blonde and his winning time was 30.13.

Races 5 to 8 - Heats 1 to 4 of the Mary O’Reilly and Track Supporters Club A4 Tri Distance Stake.

Race 5 - Heat 1 - The 6/4 market leader Terrys Castle (Black Shaw - Phoebes Kiwi) led from Farranrory Jack after the fast starting Minglers Impact had just failed to clear the opening bend. The favourite opened up on the back straight and was clear of his field before going on to record a four and a half length win over Minglers Impact which finished in great style after her early trouble. Farranrory Zak was a short head back in third place.

Race 6 - Heat 2 - Hellroad Beauty trained by Ann Wade for Moyvane owner Anne Stack was supported to 6/4 favourite and this daughter of Prime Time and Contact Flash led on the rails off the final bend and strode clear to defeat Compass Karma and Highview Trail by two and a half lengths and a short head.

Race 7 - Heat 3 - This produced a thrilling finish with Amandas Desire a 5/1 outsider finishing best to score by half a length and a head from Philipstown Lad and Bawnfune Mac with Minglers Dec and Movealong Chief only half a length and the same in arrears of the first three home. The winner a daughter of Crash and Libertys Desire clocked 29.54 in opening her winning account at the eleventh attempt for her Kilfeacle owner/trainer Mandy O’Dwyer.
