FAI Youths Cup 1st Round
Peake Villa 7 – 2 Clonmel Town
The Thurles Youths had a surprisingly easy win against their Clonmel counterparts to dump them out of this year’s National competition at the first round of asking. Two goals in the first five minutes from Dale Loughnane and Anthony Walker set the pattern and prolific striker Adam Garrett made it three on 20 minutes. Town pulled one back with a goal by Luke Hahessy, but two more Villa goals scored by Billy McCarthy and Maris Baltins in the final minutes of the half gave Villa an unassailable lead. The second half was a tamer affair but the home team increased their lead on the hour from the penalty spot when Sean Butler finished coolly to the net. Mark O’Reilly got another consolation goal for Clonmel, but McCarthy got his second and Villa’s seventh to send them through to the next round with ease.
Lough Derg 2 – 3 St Michael’s
St Michaels Youths put some indifferent league form behind them to pick up a well-earned win on the road against North Tipp outfit Lough Derg. Although the result suggests that the game was a tight affair, Michaels did have most of the play and created the most chances throughout the game. The Tipp team’s goal scorers on the day were Graham Roche, David Buckley and Conor Mc Grath.
Nenagh AFC 8 – 0 Two Mile Borris
Borris but ran into a very strong Nenagh team smarting from their recent defeat in the Munster Youths Cup. This time the Nenagh outfit weren’t to be denied, and were simply too strong for the Borris boys, running out by eight goal winners in a very one sided game.
