Clonmel Boxing Club’s Con Sheehan claimed his sixth national elite title after a hard fought battle against his club mate Dean Gardiner in the final of the national elite championships at the national stadium last Friday night.

It was an historic occasion for Clonmel Boxing Blub, with it having two boxers face each other in a senior final.

Gardiner set a fast pace from the opening bell and much credit must be given to him for pushing Sheehan all the way in a very close contest.

Sheehan had to draw on his vast experience to take the decision on the judges scorecards.

Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Egan presented the boxers with their medals after the contest.

Clonmel Boxing Clubs coaches on the night were Martin Fennessy, John Mackey, Robert Scanlon and Keith Galvin.
