Castleview revamps its tennis courts

Castleview Lawn Tennis Club has recommenced its regular courts schedule following the completion of the annual Open Tournament.

Castleview Lawn Tennis Club has recommenced its regular courts schedule following the completion of the annual Open Tournament.

The courts underwent renovation prior to Open Week and are now open for booking. Problems such as courts not draining properly and slippery conditions, have now been remedied and the courts are in top conditions.

Players should make sure to book early as there is serious demand for the courts from members delighted to get back into regular play and get in top condition for the cold season.

The Monday night American Tournament recommences on Monday, October 1 Monday.

Play commences at 7.30pm and players wishing to get involved should phone their entry to the Club between 6.30pm and 7pm. There will be an open draw on the final Monday night in each month and a structured draw for the other weeks.

The first two open draws were a great success and enjoyed thoroughly by all members. Players came and took their chances on the night and no matter what the pairings, each gave their all.

Castleview’s junior members have come to the end of their coaching sessions, provided by coaches Shane Cooke and Julieanne Foley.

The sessions were run as a pilot venture by the Club over the summer to enhance the juniors’ experience at Castleview during the holidays and to motivate them to improve their game.

The juniors received coaching in small groups from each of the coaches on a rotating weekly basis and all the kids involved benefited greatly from the sessions.

The juniors also had supervision each Tuesday and Thursday at the Club run by Jason Power and Michelle Murphy, who organised tournaments and other fun activities for them.

Many thanks to all who helped out over the summer.

Supervision for juniors players continues at the Club each Saturday so they can continue the friendships and partnerships forged during the summer.
