Galbally United 2 – 1 Cashel Town
Galbally United became the fifth team from the TSDL to advance into the open draw stages of this year’s FAI Junior Cup with a win over a disappointing Premier league outfit Cashel Town.
The visitors had been on a good run of cup form in recent weeks but came unstuck against a doughty Galbally United team.
The home side opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Jimmy Barry Murphy beat the Cashel cover to cross for an inrushing Conor Henebry who duly despatched his effort into the Cashel Town net.
The visitors were back on terms ten minutes later, when William ‘Chilly’ Fitzelle scored a headed goal of his own, and though both teams had a number of half chances, this was how it went to half time.
t was much tighter in the second half with neither team wanting to make a mistake at this stage of the competition, so it was left to the ageless Quinn Perry of Galbally United to provide the moment of class to decide this tie. On the hour Perry peeled away from his marking defender and drove a vicious left foot shot to the net to put his team back in front.
From there to the end, Cashel tried to get back into the tie, but apart from an effort that cannoned back off the crossbar, they never really looked like breaking down the County Limerick’s side defensive unit, and the home side progressed.
Galbally United will now be hoping for a home draw in the open stages.
