Clonoulty and Cashel through to u-21 final

Clonoulty-Rossmore and Cashel King Cormacs qualified for the O’Dwyer Steel West u-21 HC ‘A’ final at the weekend, Clonoulty beating Arravale Rovers 1-19 to 2-9 and Cashel overcoming Kickhams 2-15 to 1-10.

The final takes place in Golden on Sunday with a 2.30pm start and could provide a cracking contest with both sides showing impressive form in their semi-final wins.

When Clonoulty-Rossmore and Arravale Rovers met at Annacarty in the league stage of the championship, Arravale made a great comeback in the final quarter to snatch a draw.

They made a valiant effort to do the same on Sunday but came up short in the end.

Clonoulty were the better side in the opening quarter against Rovers and led 0-5 to after seventeen minutes. Arravale came right into the game with three unanswered points to leave only a point between the sides with five minutes to half-time.

However, Clonoulty moved ahead during that period with four well-taken points to lead by 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval.

Clonoulty pulled further ahead during the third quarter but Arravale hit a golden patch with two goals to leave only a point between the sides with five minutes to go.

However, it was Clonoulty who had the better of things during that final period notching up three points by Conor Hammersley and a goal by Aaron Ryan for a seven-point victory.

Cashel got of to a lightning start against Kickhams in their semi-final with four quick points but Kickhams came back to level by the end of the first quarter.

Cashel took off again and led by 1-9 to 0-7 at the interval.

The winners were more on top during the second-half and increased their lead.

A goal by Kickhams from a twenty-five yard free about six minutes from the end produced a late spurt but not enough to catch Cashel, who were comfortable winners by 2-15 to 1-10 in the end.
