Bill y Lambe wins
Donoughmore Cup Final

The Donoughmore Cup (the club singles matchplay) has a new name on it this year as the final was between two first timers, Billy Lambe and Andrew Gartlan. Billy got off to a great start going two up after three holes but it nearly wasn’t to be the final that Billy wanted as he departed the first tee without his favourite wedge which he inadvertently left beside the practice green after warming up. Luckily for Billy it was noticed and retrieved before the 4th hole was played out. Billy in particular had some notable scalps on the way to the final and Andrew had also carved a matchplay name for himself on his journey from the first round and it certainly looked like a ding dong battle was on the cards. In the final however Billy seemed to be the more composed of the two and he maintained his two-hole advantage from the third right through to the match end which he eventually won on the 17th for a 3 & 1 victory.

Nice one Billy!

Our sincere thanks to (John) O’Sullivan Insurances for the generous sponsorship of this prestigious competition.
