Clonmel Mountain Bike Club held a Skills Training Day recently in Russelstown Wood near Clonmel, with the kind permission of Coillte and facilitated by a grant from Clonmel Borough Council.
The event was a great success, and greatly helped by a break in the bad weather and a rare visit from the sun which showed off this beautiful part of our local woodlands to their best advantage. The good conditions also helped participants make the most of top quality coaching by the Trailriders team coaches Chris O’Callaghan and Cameron Cornforth who provided the teaching. Skill areas covered included basic bike handling techniques, suspension set up, tyre pressures, cornering, descending and jumping. A number of the Clonmel club members are active participants in mountain bike competitions throughout the year in disciplines such as downhill, cross country and gravity enduro. This last type of racing is seeing explosive growth in the last two years and involves usually five timed stages on generally downhill terrain in a number of venues countrywide.
CMBC were very encouraged by the Clonmel Borough grant which made the event possible, and with the cooperation of Coillte in granting access locally. Meanwhile, CMBC are hatching plans for a strong challenge in the Biking.ie Gravity Enduro series and the newly launched Munster Enduro series.
Potential new members to the club are welcome along on club spins: details via the Clonmel Mountain Bike Club Facebook page.
