Bennett and O'Loughlin spearhead Irish challenge

Carrick-on-Suir cyclists Sam Bennett and Michael O'Loughlin will spearhead the Irish challenge in the World Road Cycling Championships in Doha, Qatar next week.

Bennett (pictured) has recently returned to form after his crash in the Tour de France, winning a prestigious one day race in Italy.

The pan-flat course in Doha will suit sprinters like him. 250km in expected temperatures of 35 degrees will make it a brutal race. But Sam has won in Qatar before, so knows what to expect.

For 19 year old Michael O'Loughlin, it will be another step up as he enters the Under 23 category.

The Team Wiggins rider has made a solid start in the professional ranks, taking bronze in the elite National Championships road race behind WorldTour riders Nicolas Roche and Matt Brammeier, and claiming the Under 23 title as well.

Michael goes in both the U23 time trial and road race in Doha.

Both men are V-Presidents of their home club PANDUIT Carrick Wheelers. All in Carrick wish them the very best of luck.
