Tipperary Town u-16 girls soccer team into last sixteen of FAI National Cup

The Tipperary Town team that beat Killenaule in the National Cup.

Tipperary town girls beat Killenaule 3-0 in an all-Tipperary third round clash in the u-16 FAI National Cup.

It was an eagerly awaited fixture between two TSSDL sides that both play in the u16 Premier.

Tipperary Town were the team in form going into this game as they had previously beaten the same opposition a couple of weeks ago.

Tipperary Town started  brighter and looked to set the tone of the game early with their physicality and pressing.

Hannah Quinn opened the scoring with an impressive solo goal, she took it past three players in the Killenaule box and found the corner of the net with a great strike.

Chloe Wills and Sara Finnane were excellent in midfield and were the springboard for all the Tipperary Town attacks while Leah Cremins secured the midfield and limited Killenaule’s space.

Hannah Quinn made it 2-0 with another great run beating Killenaule defenders before finishing from an acute angle.

Sara Finnane made it 3-0 before half time with a great strike from just inside the box.

Killenaule to their credit came out in the second half and battled hard and caused Tipperary Town some problems but Tipperary Town's rear guard were excellent  in the form of Megan Ryan, Megan Prenderville, Megan Heffernan, Sally Ann O’Dwyer and Orla Bourke with Gemma Geary playing in front of them.

Both sides created chances but Killenaule found Emma Bourke in inspired form as she was excellent  and made some great saves.

Sarah Armshaw, Roisin Mausell and Niamh Lewis all did well going forward in the second half.

Overall it was a great performance from Tipperary Town who create a bit of history in the club by following the u14s into the last 16 in their respective FAI competition.

The u16's now await the draw to see who they play in the new year.
