Tipperary people reminded to ‘straighten up’ this October
The Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) is encouraging adults and children in Tipperary to ‘straighten up’ during the fourth annual ‘Straighten Up Ireland’ Week. (SUI) The campaign will begin on Monday, October 15 and run for a full week to include World Spine Day, on Tuesday, October 16.
Local chiropractors will be running a number of events to mark the week. Dr. Anne Wall will be offering free SUI spinal checks on Tuesday 17 and Thursday 18 at Thurles Chiropractic Clinic, Clongour, Thurles. To make an appointment, contact 087 1219310. Dr. Heather Thompson, of The Advanced Chiropractic Clinic, Glebe House, Kenyon St. Carpark, Nenagh, is offering free spinal checks on children, from World Spine Day until the end of October, and reduced rates of 40e for new patients. Dr. Marie Osbourne will be running SUI exercise demonstrations at Osborne Chiropractic, Gurtnafleur Business Park, Clonmel, on Wednesday 17th at 7pm. Also, she will be demonstrating the exercises with the children of Gaelscoil Chluain Meala and SS Peter & Paul’s Primary School.
‘Straighten Up Ireland’ aims to raise awareness of spinal health among adults and children and encourage improved posture to help the people of Tipperary to look and feel their best. The CAI has developed a series of simple everyday exercises, which will act to improve posture, stabilise core muscle groups, enhance health and prevent spinal disability. Taking a mere three minutes to complete, the exercises can be undertaken by people of all ages with a special program tailored for children. With fun descriptions like ‘twisting star’, ‘the hummingbird’, ‘the rocker’ and ‘shaking loose’, the whole family will be keen to get involved!
The CAI has also launched a National Colouring Competition to celebrate Straighten Up Ireland Week. Children are invited to log on to the CAI website www.chiropractic.ie where they can download the appropriate picture for their age category (4-8 and 8-13). All entries are to be posted to the CAI HQ at Penrose Wharf, Penrose Quay, Cork All entries are to be posted to the CAI HQ at Penrose Wharf, Penrose Quay, Cork before 30th October.
