DUHILL GALA DAY
Events will begin at 9.30am on Sunday with the cake sale (cakes may be handed in on the morning before mass) followed by Fun Cycle at 12 noon sharp, approx: 10k from Duhill Hall to Clogheen via Bohernagore Cross, and back to field at Castlegrace Cross Roads (by kind permission of Jim and Maureen Moloney). All ages welcome, Fancy Dress optional, prizes for first Lady/Gent Home, Boy/Girl and best costume. €2. per bike, helmets compulsory .
Photography competition, pictures of your choice,: two entries per person, all age groups welcome. (Prizes to be won and to enter contact Maggie Moloney, Castlegrace Tel: 086-3846839 or photo’s can be dropped in to P.J. and Mgt English Fruit and Veg Shop, Clogheen, or Marie Burke The Shop Ballylooby Village. Other events planned, include children’s relays, GAA Blitzes, Over 40’s match, Novelty Competitions, Pony Rides, Dog Show, Face Painting, and Bouncy Castles. Tug of War competition, Farmers Market and Craft Stalls and much more, a family day out not to be missed. Proceeds go towards the up-keep of hall and the senior citizens party. A meeting to discuss the final details of the forthcoming Gala Day will take place on this Wednesday, September 7, in Duhill Hall at 8pm.
BALLYBACON/GRANGE GAA CLUB
The Under 10’s played a Blitz in Goatenbridge last Wednesday, 24 August. On the night Cahir and Skeheenarinky, then Ballybacon/Grange and St. Mary’s played semi-finals which saw the A finalists emerge as Cahir and St Mary’s while the others played off the B final. Both finals were very enjoyable and Cahir and Ballybacon-Grange won out. Ballybacon’s captain on the night was Kevin Hogan, whose brother Michael starred on the winning Tony Forristal team on Sunday. A very big thank you to all who helped out, especially Paudie Sweeney who refereed so willingly and well. UNDER 6’s and UNDER 8’s
On Sunday, 28 August, the Under 8’s and Under 6’s took part in a blitz organized by Cahir GAA. The Under 8’s won all their three matches. The Under 6’s also did excellent in their three matches which was their first outing! The Under 8 player of the week for Tuesday 30 August was Sammy Lewis.
Under 12’s were defeated in the CountySeries on Friday last, 2 September by 4 points. This team can proudly hold their heads high however, they will be contesting a South Final shortly and we wish them the very best of luck in that.
U14 SOUTH CHAMPIONS
There was celebrations in Goatenbridge on Monday night last, 29 August when our Under 14 team returned South Champions after beating Killenaule decisively in Grangemockler on a scoreline of Ballybacon/Grange 3-7 to Killenaule’s 1-5! Thanks to Phil Walsh, John D Condon and Brian Dillon, the Team Selectors.

FLEADH CHEOIL SUCCESS
In last weeks notes, congratulations were extended to the local ladies who were part of the Newcastle Irish dancing team that won their category in set dancing at the 2011 Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan Unfortunately, one lady’s name was inadvertently omitted! We would like to extend our congratulations to Veronica McNamara, Ballybacon, Leah Condon, Crough and Catherine Ryan, Knockballiniry.
AGBN GUN CLUB

The Knockmealdown Active spotlight is currently on Goatenbridge, with a major walk planned on the Knockmealdowns on Sunday, September 18.

Work is continuing on the development of the ABNG gun club’s duck pond at Kildanogue in Goatenbridge. At the same time, work is beginning on a looped walk in Clogheen, which it is hoped will be ready for National Trails Day.
