The amalgamation of Cahir Boys and Girls Primary schools will proceed in 2015/2016.
The announcement follows representation from Tipperary Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Tom Hayes T.D. on the issue.
Minister Hayes says, ‘I have met with the Education Minister Ruairí Quinn to enquire as to the current situation regarding the planned amalgamation of the schools, which is something that teachers, students and parents in Cahir have been calling for, for many years.’
He added, ‘I am happy to report that the project is scheduled on the Five Year Plan and is expected to proceed to construction in 2015/2016. This is very welcome news to all involved and indeed for the town and will also create some much needed employment during the construction phase of the project.’
The schools have both agreed to the amalgamation plans and an application for a major capital project has been submitted.
