The Presentation Convent class of 74 in Clonmel held their reunion at Hotel Minella last month.
There were emotional scenes, with many former classmates meeting up for the first time in all of 40 years.
Some travelled from overseas for the occasion and were so delighted to chat again over tea and coffee, taking up where they had left off so many years ago in the classroom.
After the initial meeting the occasion was captured for posterity, with many photos taken.
The ladies then sat down for lunch, which was followed by an old school quiz.
Balloons, photos and banners were the order of the day, with some good-natured jibes passing back and forth.
Classmates who had died, and some absent members, were also fondly remembered.
Sr. de Sales from the Presentation Convent was also present and many of her former students re-introduced themselves. Sr. de Sales had no problem in remembering each one after such a long time. Just as some ladies were leaving many others retired to the lounge where songs, tales and memory lane were visited with gusto.
Eventually with regret they started to say their goodbyes, with some teary eyes.
Who knew who would be present if ever the occasion would happen again? Would the special bond of school friendships ever be experienced again?
And would those students who were in Our Lady’s boarding school meet their school sisters again?
After four decades, the reunion was a very special occasion that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
