U/21(B) Football.

Our U/21 footballers were beaten by Ballyporeen in the Co. Final in New Inn on Saturday evening. We did not have the best of starts and were chasing the game from there on and at one stage were 11 points down. In fairness to this young team which has 13 young enough for next year, they never gave up and were back to within 5 points at the break. Believe it or not we had an awful lot of possession in that first half but were guilty of over elaborating out around the field when the more direct approach may have seen a much closer game. The second half saw the lads try their best but you have to hand it to the South reps, their skill and speed and especially their superior fitness tipped the balance in their favour in the closing stages and they were deserving winners on the score 3-15 to 2-8. Our team and management, though disappointed with the defeat will have been happy to have had such a successful campaign which saw a West title being secured along the way to the Co. final and we wish them well in the upcoming U/21 (A) Hurling championship. Kickham team and scorers. Dean Kelly, Danny Carberry, Shane Heelan, Jamie Quinn, Rory Heffernan, Patrick O’Brien, Johnny Ryan, David Butler(1-2), Gerry Horgan (1-1), Cathal Morrissey(0-1), John Griffey, Patrick Ryan (0-1), Niall O’Brien, Kenneth Horgan (0-1), Dean Thompson. Subs used : Sean Compton (0-2), Padraig Slattery.

Memberships.

We are again asking all players, mentors and supporters to please pay up their membership fees for this year. The day to day running of any club in these times is an onerous task and surely the very least that should be done by individuals is to pay their membership to help maintain the status quo. Those players that have been injured over the years can testify how important it is to be insured, especially when surgical intervention is necessary. Please contact Margaret Hayes, Michael Shanahan, Richard Moloney or any Club Officer ASAP. Thank you.
